Chippendale Celebration

with Hyde Park Antiques

Celebrate the 300th anniversary of famed designer and cabinet maker Thomas Chippendale at Hyde Park Antiques! Hyde Park Antiques was founded in 1965 and features fine 18th-and-19th century furniture, paintings, and decorative arts. While their furniture collection spans the most interesting eras in British design, from early burled walnut pieces to the exotic wood Regency period designs, they specialize in furniture from England’s Golden period, also known as the “Age of Mahogany.” Highlights include objects made by the famed Chippendale workshop or influenced by his patterns featured in The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director, published in 1754. Owner and loyal Royal Oak member Rachel Karr will take us through some of the gallery’s exquisite pieces and reveal stories behind her some of favorite pieces. She will discuss how Chippendale secured his position as one of the most fashionable cabinet-makers of the 18th century and how his legacy still influences the design world today.
