An Evening of English Music by the London Philharmonic Orchestra
The Royal Oak Foundation is delighted to partner with the American Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, who curated a special selection of British music for us to enjoy from their July 2020 Summer Sessions recorded in London.
Nick Jackman, Campaigns & Projects Director at the London Philharmonic Orchestra, will welcome us live and introduce a musician from the Orchestra who will speak about performing in lockdown, and how the Orchestra has started touring again. We will then have a chance to ask questions before the music program begins.
The program will start with Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings in E Minor, Op. 20. We will also listen to several pieces performed by LPO’s Brass Ensemble—all written by current or former members of the LPO—including Sir Malcom Arnold’s A Richmond Fanfare and Fanfare for a Royal Occasion, Stanley Woods’s Alexander Takes a Swing and John Peel, and Simon Carrington’s Hampden Celebration among others. We will end with a wonderful video rendition of Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again by players from the LPO and members of the London Philharmonic Choir, performed remotely from separate locations earlier this year.
