Crafting Time: Bremont Watch Company
Join Royal Oak and Bremont Watch Company co-founder Giles English as he talks about the history of the Bremont Watch Company, and how it has become the preferred British bespoke watch for adventure seekers, aviators, Olympians, and military personnel.
Bremont was founded in 2002 by aviator brothers Nick and Giles English, following a tragic flying accident, which resulted in Nick being seriously injured and the death of their father. It was a tipping point in the brothers’ lives that led them to do something they were passionate about, resulting in to the company’s launch, which today is now one of the few purveyors of luxury British-made timepieces. Nick and Giles had grown up interested in engineering, clock assembly, as well as airplane and yacht construction.
Since its beginning, Bremont has been inspired by the history of British watchmaking and handcrafted production. England was a watchmaking leader during the 17th and 18th centuries—in 1800 Britain made around half of the world’s timepieces. However, the U.S. and Switzerland gradually overtook the UK luxury watch market. Today, Bremont is staging a very British comeback. As Giles has said in interviews, “The world sets its time by Greenwich, not by Geneva, and that is for a good reason.”
