The Kips Bay Decorator Show House is in full swing this month, and we at Royal Oak are happy to be celebrating the finest interior designers in the country with them. Crowds are pouring into New York City’s Arthur Sachs mansion on the Upper East Side for a real treat: a look inside a home decorated by some of the most renowned decorators in the country.
Take a virtual tour of the show house here with NBC New York:
The Show House opened last month to glowing reviews. Architectural Digest wrote:
“If you’re stumped for decorating ideas, there’s no better place right now to turn than the 43rd annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House, which runs from May 14 through June 11 in New York. The cavalcade of style, staged this year in an elegant Gilded Age townhouse designed by architects Albert Buchman and Mortimer J. Fox, embraces color (deep and lush), comfort (ditto), and idiosyncrasy, from Drake Design Associates’ mica-spangled burgundy entrance hall crowned by cloudlike ceiling lights to Gail Green Interiors’ powder room sheathed in jazzy Keith Haring tiles.“
The Huffington Post’s Bob Richter effused that it was “one of the finest show homes I’ve seen in a very long while,” adding:
“Show houses by nature are places for designers to highlight their talent and capabilities. Over the years of both attending and participating in them, I’ve found that like fashion shows, sometimes participants create concepts and over-the-top themes to stand out in the crowd. The result is often a series of rooms with a certain ‘wow’ factor, but little cohesion. This year’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House, however, was a world apart from the norm. For the first time, I can say that the house really felt like a home.“
The positive press extended to The New York Times and HGTV, among others.
